Housekeeping Porter

November 24, 2021

About the Role

The Carnegie Club is one of the world’s most prestigious private members clubs, welcoming some 400 members and their guests from around the globe to Skibo where they experience true Highland hospitality.

Our Housekeeping team plays an integral part in cultivating the home-from-home atmosphere that makes Skibo unique, and our Porters are key to providing the exceptional service that makes our guests' arrival and departure seamless and stress-free.

Due to retirement, we are recruiting a full-time Housekeeping Porter to join our team.

You will handle and care for our guests’ luggage on arrival and departure, delivering the highest levels of customer service.

Being a Porter at Skibo is about more than carrying luggage, though. You help create the Club's welcoming ambience by setting the fireplaces, bring a smile to our members faces by delivering their morning newspaper as well as any parcels and letters addressed to them, and you assist your colleagues in Housekeeping behind the scenes by transporting linens, keeping the stores in order, and more.

Required Skills and Experience

You are able to work unsupervised, are conscientious and dependable with a meticulous attention to detail and have the ability to use your initiative.

You have excellent communication skills, and are personable and polite when interacting with guests.

You are an enthusiastic team player who is eager to assist your colleagues and contribute to the overall success of the Club.

Essential for this role are clear and legible handwriting, the flexibility to work varying shifts, and a full clean driving license.

Pay rates start from £10.25 per hour.

Gratuities and the Service Charge

In addition to the base rate of pay, employees of The Carnegie Club also share in gratuities (tips) and the service charge (an additional charge levied on room rates and other services at the Club that is paid directly to staff, similar to a dividend).

Gratuities and the service charge are paid to all employees on a pro-rata basis regardless of their role - every member of the team at Skibo contributes to the overall guest experience and is rewarded as such.

The value of gratuities and the service charge varies, but for reference in 2019 full-time staff at the Club received on average around £2,000 in addition to their annual salary. Since then, the service charge rate has increased and so for 2022 this sum is estimated at around £4,000 in addition to their annual salary. Part time staff will receive the service charge as a percentage of the hours they work i.e 20 hours per week would equal 50% of the service charge.
