Room Attendant

November 24, 2021

About the Role

Being a room attendant at The Carnegie Club is more than simply changing sheets and dusting sideboards. You provide our members with the ultimate home-from-home experience through everything you prepare. From family photos and jars of home-baked shortbread by their bedside, to their preference of duvet or bedsheets, your caring attention to detail makes our members feel unique, valued and eager to return.

Alongside your colleagues in our Housekeeping department, you will clean and tidy all areas of the club's accommodation, including castle bedrooms and guest lodges, ensuring the highest standards of presentation and cleanliness for our members to enjoy. You will also pro-actively respond to any requests from our guests and be willing to go the extra mile to ensure their needs are met.

Required Skills and Experience

You are an enthusiastic team player, who is dependable and can be trusted to work diligently on your own when required. An attention to detail and the ability to use your own initiative are some of your strengths and you present a positive personal image to guests and colleagues. You recognise the value of exceptional customer service and whilst previous experience in a similar role may be advantageous, it is not essential and full training will be provided.

This role will require evening and weekend work, however we can offer a flexible approach to hours where possible.

Pay rates start from £10.25 per hour.

Gratuities and the Service Charge

In addition to the base rate of pay, employees of The Carnegie Club also share in gratuities (tips) and the service charge (an additional charge levied on room rates and other services at the Club that is paid directly to staff, similar to a dividend).

Gratuities and the service charge are paid to all employees on a pro-rata basis regardless of their role - every member of the team at Skibo contributes to the overall guest experience and is rewarded as such.

The value of gratuities and the service charge varies, but for reference in 2019 full-time staff at the Club received on average around £2,000 in addition to their annual salary. Since then, the service charge rate has increased and so for 2022 this sum is estimated at around £4,000 in addition to their annual salary. Part time staff will receive the service charge as a percentage of the hours they work i.e 20 hours per week would equal 50% of the service charge.
