The Spa at Skibo

  • Providing a haven of peace and tranquillity for our members and guests, the Skibo Spa complex is home to the Club's swimming pool and gym.
  • The swimming pool was originally built for Andrew Carnegie in the early 1900s. It underwent a sympathetic renovation in 2006 and is now one of The Carnegie Club's most iconic spots. The water in the stainless steel-lined pool is ozone treated, the building is temperature controlled to avoid condensation, and the glass panes have been treated to deflect the sun’s rays to avoid overheating.
  • The gym is equipped with Peloton bikes, Life Fitness treadmills and rowing machines, as well as free weights, kettle bells and more.

About the role

  • We are looking for an enthusiastic and dependable individual to join us at Skibo.
  • As Pool Attendant, you'll ensure that our pool, gym, changing rooms, toilets and associated areas are kept in pristine condition, stocked with towels, refreshments and other relevant items.
  • You'll undertake checks on opening and closing the pool, conduct regular cleaning, and carry out twice daily testing of the water.
  • You'll also keep a keen eye out for any potential issues like lightbulbs that need replaced or leaks, and report these promptly to the relevant department to be fixed.
  • As a guest-facing member of the team, you'll be expected to rise to any challenge and surpass our members' expectations. That might mean answering their queries about the pool and spa services, arranging transport from the pool back to the castle, escorting guests to their spa appointment, or resolving any complaints raised in a professional manner.
  • As a team player, you'll be happy to assist your colleagues in the Spa when required, including helping to set up treatment rooms and sharing reception duties when required (such as over lunch breaks).

Who we are looking for

  • You're reliable and have a positive attitude.
  • You enjoy meeting new people and take pride in being part of a team, and get a great deal of satisfaction helping your colleagues both in the Spa team and elsewhere at the Club. You can also work independently and can use your initiative.
  • You're dependable and adaptable with excellent communication skills.
  • You have a background in housekeeping in a hospitality or spa/fitness business or similar.
  • You're flexible in terms of availability, able to work shifts and weekends - sometimes at short notice.

What we can offer you

  • Share of gratuities and service charge see below for details
  • 33 days annual leave
  • Meals on shift are provided free of charge
  • Uniform provided
  • Access to staff benefit scheme
  • For team members who otherwise would not be able to travel to Skibo, the Club offers a staff transport service. Details can be found here.
  • Complimentary use of staff gym and fitness classes
  • Discounted estate activities including quad biking and horse riding
  • Discount in the club shop
  • 'Refer a friend' bonus scheme
  • Staff events

"It is very easy to take pride in looking after the pool and gym areas, as the Skibo Spa is such a gorgeous place to work."

Austin Cosens, Pool Attendant
