Stonemasonry at The Carnegie Club
- Our Stonemasonry team works seamlessly with our Maintenance department to maintain the Club's extensive property portfolio, keeping the buildings and amenities on our 8,000-acre estate in excellent order. Together, they manage the ongoing conservation, routine maintenance, and replacement of stone across the estate.
- The team is responsible for the care of Skibo's listed buildings (including the castle which can trace its foundations back to the 1200s), historic buildings like the swimming pool and Equestrian Centre that have been sensitively restored and upgraded as part of the Club's ongoing programme of improvements, along with contemporary structures like the Skibo Clubhouse.
About the role
- Working within the Maintenance department alongside our team of stonemasons, you'll manage the identification and subsequent repair process of various stonemasonry projects throughout the estate.
- With 8,000 acres at Skibo and a wide range of buildings (from the Grade-A listed castle to the modern Clubhouse) and types of stonework across the estate including sandstone indents, drystone dykes, and Caithness Stone signage, you'll work with a range of environments, builds and sustainable stone types.
- Projects will include – but are not limited to – creating stone signs, replicating historic features, constructing walls from natural stone, and restoring deteriorated sandstone to its former glory.
- Your time will be split between work for estate buildings and grounds and commissions for external customers in the local community.
- Behind the scenes, you'll interpret blueprints and drawings to determine the specifications and materials required for different projects, ensuring that equipment and resources are used efficiently to adhere to time schedules as required.
Who we are looking for
- An experienced banker mason, you're comfortable working on the various projects described above both in a team and on your own.
- You have a passion for your craft, an impeccable eye for detail, and take pride in seeing a job well done.
- You have experience both in the construction sector and in project management.
- You're familiar with industry laws and regulations and have a keen awareness of safety protocols and their importance.
- You're an excellent communicator, a strong negotiator and a team player.
